چکیده

Abstract. This study uses large-eddy simulations (LESs) to evaluate two widely used observational techniques that estimate point source emissions. We the use of car measurements perpendicular wind direction and commonly Other Test Method 33A (OTM 33A). The LES simulates a plume from released into stationary, homogeneous, neutral atmospheric surface layer over flat terrain. choice is motivated by our ambition validate methods under controlled conditions where they are expected perform well since sources uncertainties minimized. Three plumes with different release heights were sampled in manner mimics sampling according transects stationary OTM 33A. Subsequently, strength estimates compared true simulation. Standard deviations estimated strengths decay proportionally inverse square root number averaged transects, showing statistical independence individual samples. analysis shows for transect at least 15 repeated measurement series need be obtain within 40 % strength. For analysis, which recommends 200 m source, have similar values close caused insufficient dispersion turbulent mixing source. Additionally, derived substantially overestimated overestimation driven proposed coefficients, too large this specific case. suggests constants likely influenced motions length scales beyond scale layer. Lastly, indicate that, due wind-shear effects, position time-averaged centerline may differ emission height. mismatch can an additional error if Gaussian model (GPM) interpret measurement. In case measurements, correct then requires adjustment height GPM.

numerical simulation of plume rise in neutral atmospheric stability condition

introduction air pollution has harmful effect on human health and the environment. accordingly, considerable effort has been put to analyze the air pollutants. one important issue is the spatial distribution of these pollutants. dispersion of the pollutants released from sources on the ground is mostly driven by the planetary boundary layer where turbulent flow causes mixing of the content of t...

Large-eddy simulation of turbulent flow over an array of wall-mounted cubes submerged in an emulated atmospheric boundary-layer

Turbulent flow over an array of wall-mounted cubic obstacles has been numerically investigated using large-eddy simulation. The simulations have been performed using high-performance computations with local cluster systems. The array of cubes are fully submerged in a simulated deep rough-wall atmospheric boundary-layer with high turbulence intensity characteristics of environmental turbulent fl...

Evaluation of numerical strategies for large eddy simulation of particulate two-phase recirculating flows

Predicting particle dispersion in recirculating two-phase flows is a key issue for reacting flows and a potential application of Large Eddy Simulation (LES) methods. In this study, Euler/Euler and Euler/Lagrange LES approaches are compared in the bluff body configuration from Borée et al. [1] where glass beads are injected into a complex recirculating flow. These tests are performed for non-rea...
